i am such a sponge for positive thinking, self assertion books...
i rarely enjoy a book unless it makes me question how i think or compel me to change my thinking.
that being said,
i am just going to put this somewhat long somewhat personal thought and series of events out there and share...
in 2005, when my first books were released, primedia had a promotional marketing group (no longer associated with primedia).
think their main job was to promote books and sales, etc.
they had asked me where i wanted my books to be promoted and i IMMEDIATELY replied,
"i want the books sent to ROSIE O'DONNELL"
at that point her show was a part of my morning routine, i loved her down to earth candor, and i just felt she was the real thing...say it like it is, be who you are kinda gal. Besides i think we would be really fun at a party! AND more compelling is that she was and still is quite the enthusiast scrapbooker, mixed media and artist...she speaks my language! I LOVE THAT!
well, the promotional company kinda hesitated and said something to the effect of, "well, anyone else?"
long story short, i do not believe the books ever made it to Rosie O'Donnell.
so this thought of crafting with Rosie O'Donnell has always secretly been in the back of my mind.
then last year, Ali gave me one of Jeffrey Gitomer's books called Little Black Book of Connections
in chapter 3 it asks you to make a list of the people "that i am going to meet this year no matter what it takes."
the only person i wrote in on the lines was Rosie O'Donnell
and i did not make it happen.
i wasn't quite sure how to...i should have tried harder. i commented several times and ways through her blog in an attempt that MAYBE she would comment back, but she gets like 500+ comments who would expect her too.
a few months later while waiting for connections in the airport i bought another one of Jeffrey Gitomer's books, Little Gold Book of YES Attitude.
Again, when i finished reading, i was inspired by his thoughts and practicality of making things happen in your life and the power of believing you can.
in my heart i kept going back to this feeling that i had missed my window of opportunity to connect somehow with Rosie... i still kept thinking "maybe she has bought my books? i am a book junkie, i buy every kind of craft book i can get my hands on, maybe she does too?"
more recently, anticipating my 30 hours of return travel from S Africa, i bought a book in the Cape Town airport called The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne
Again the book is about the power of positive thinking and putting out good energy and getting it in return. i buy into that kinda stuff and i am trying my best to apply the practice of positive thinking into my daily life.
it is a really powerful read!
anyway, after reading it i was again reminded of the Rosie thing. i had never actually followed through on making that contact and it is still something i really want to do.
today i was compelled to post this telling and quite vulnerable story of myself because i have received the final reminder like a ton of bricks!
CHECK THIS OUT!!
like i said i am an idea book junkie, i buy them all!
yesterday in the mail i received my copy of Journal Revolution, by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino. i read their first book Visual Chronicles when i came out a couple years ago and loved it!
the journal revolution book was sitting with its back cover showing on my desk as i went to check my email this morning i saw this...look closely at what it says!!!!!!
if that is not surreal i do not know what is!
today, tomorrow, etc., i am going to do whatever i can to fulfill this quirky dream of sending my 3 initial books to Rosie as well as the 2 new ones in April...
maybe she would come to my event?
maybe we could scrapbook and podcast together?
maybe she'll think it is ridiculous of me altogether...but i will never know unless i try!
If you happen to have a friend, of a friend, of a friend, of Rosie O'Donnell and can help let me know...i will let you know how far i get.
need to print out some pictures today...
because i have only 8 more pages to complete for the book and instead of scrapbooking this morning i did this!
I LOVE IT!!
i started playing with my new Ranger color washes and i ended up with this!
a fabulous morning of creative play if i do say so myself!
and speaking of art i have to share with you the AMAZING piece i received on my birthday from my friend Robin Beam...she MADE THIS!! it is made from individual glass pieces soldered together, i must learn how to solder like this right NOW!!
feeling like i needed a bit of free creative time,
i reached into my paint basket and pulled out these 3 colors and just went for it!
so this morning before i worked on some more scrapbooking i decided to return to my painting a day...
i missed it!
i like playing with paint!
i am no Picasso, but who cares...
i am perfect just the way i create!
ok back to scrapbooking playtime!
have a good one!
i had a great time at colorful creations this weekend and racked up $187 worth of product in my basket before i left (and that was with a discount). thank you so much jayne and jenn!!
the store had all kinds of stamping and mixed media stuff like color washes, pigment powders, alcohol inks, beeswax and of course STAMPS!!! i also bought 2 of the 12 x 12 American crafts albums, i really like how it looks with the different sized pages in one album and i think i am going to try it and i figure since i will have 100+ pages of 12 x 12 & 8.5 x 11 after i finish the book that it just might be a good thing to start doing.
i have only 12 layouts left to make for the book and then i will get back to work on some more of the project and play ideas i have been accumulating and sketching in my notebook!
for right now, back to work!
mid class timeout to say hello from colorful creations in Hy-Town!
just hanging with my peeps, yo.
and a quick hello with ali!!
back to class!!
one of the best parts about my job is the product.
i am addicted to paper, i always have been...
i buy things to feed my "more stuff" addiction
that's why one piece of patterned paper is not enough, i must buy them in multiples!
that is why when the UPS man, his name is jerry, pulls up and stops in front of my house i get a little giddy.
the man in brown is bringing me more PRODUCT!!
a FIX if you will.
I LOVE happy surprise boxes of product
what self respecting crafter wouldn't?
Debbie crouse, you make me swoon!
look at what she found for me,
a vintage flash card that says downy...
surely i can come up with a way to add an "e"
and underneath that was all of this!!!
a 7gypsies happy box!!!
spoiled rotten i am and damn happy about it too!
thank you debbie!
tomorrow morning i am off to colorful creations in Hyannis, MA to teach a 3-day workshop!
i will be there with bells on...how many of you will i see there?
feels like i haven't blogged about random stuff since forever!
i keep watching the s. Africa video and it feels like a dream. and FYI, if you are interested in another s. Africa highlight video, check out Wilna's video from the trip on her blog!
finally, i think the jet lag is wearing thin, i slept past 4 am this morning (i woke up at 5:30!)
it is picture day at school today so this morning at 6:15 i was doing hair and outfits...
i also sent out an INSPIRED. event newsletter this morning featuring claudine hellmuth..I LOVE HER and her design style! INSPIRED. event registration is well underway and i am so excited about the response.
my inspired students, you are in for more than you can possibly imagine creativity, technique, design, pampering and energy wise...prepare for THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!
i will start sending out exciting weekly event news and updates, so if you haven't signed up for the newsletter do it now!! it is so much fun to announce all the over the top exciting things we have lined up for my INSPIRED. students!!
i will also send out today's newsletter again to all those that did not get it this morning!!
thanks for all the birthday well wishes, i had a great day.
however, i feel i must share these.
these are my 36th birthday photos...
somehow i think i got the short end of the birthday photography stick, don't you?
i am totally going to scrap them.
not only am i going to scrap them i am putting them in the book, cause if these ain't crappy i do not know what is!
speaking of scrapbooking,
here is what my workspace looks like right now,
that's 12 pages of photos cut and designed ready to go!!
apparently not everyone scrapbooks like this?
it is simply THE fastest and easiest way to get creative on your pages...
these are for the book, so i will be scrapping away all day.
feels good to be back and creative again!
also some exciting news while traveling in S. africa...
i received confirmation to do a scrapping cruise to ALASKA aug 22-29, 2008!!
i have heard that Alaskan cruises are fabulous!!
any of you ever been?
have any good motion sickness advice?
i am going to need it!
apparently 2008 is the year of the cruise...
nov. 10-15, 2007 (ok so it is almost 2008) holiday craft cruise to grand cayman
april 25-28, 2008 creativity cruise to ensenada
nov 1-8, 2008 scrapbooking in paradise cruise to Hawaii
i will be in some serious project mode for my 2008 line up once i finish the pages for my book. i have about 10 new class project ideas sketched out just waiting for time to permit.
and yesterday, i just received a huge box of 90 wooden 10" full body dressforms for my mini workshop classes specifically for INSPIRED.!!
ok back to work for me!!
