isn't she lovely?!!!!

i worked all day to finish her up! she is approximately 32" square and filled with bright bold colors and textures. these fabrics together are like eye candy. makes me want to scrapbook!
the base is muslin. i machine stitched all the squares of fabric to the muslin base leaving the raw edges to fray. i just love the frayed look and tried to use that as a design element in my embellishing too. even the fabric skirt that my "fancy angel lady" is wearing has a torn/frayed edge.

once i had the fabric grid in place i just began decorating. most all of the flowers and trims are simply attached with fabric glue, the helmar brand is even washable (not that i will wash it of course, just FYI).
i spent a good portion of the time hand beading, but the details totally make the difference. it is the perfect piece for my new studio. it makes me so happy!
did a few embroidered words on my machine and the black quotes you will see more of in the future (wink!)

added the fabric word "laugh" and the word "adore" only i changed the order and removed the "o" to spell "dare".
when the top was complete i sandwiched fleece batting between another layer of the same sized muslin and machine quilted between each fabric rectangle making a grid pattern.
i used my serger to sew up the edges and adhered lace trim over the stitched edges. i then cut ribbon flowers and hand sewed hot pink sead beads and the flowers around the edge over the lace.
i just went and hung it in the studio classroom and totally forgot my camera, that would have been a great photo to add to the art quilt story(...ok tomorrow!)
speaking of the studio...
here are some pictures of the progress. it will always be a work in progress - labor of love, there are a couple things we still need to fix, change and add, but here's where we are now!
