ok as most anyone who knows me knows i am just fascinated by religion, spirituality and the whole notion of predestiny...i am not a religious person per say, just fascinated by it all.
not that that is all too important to know, but i though it an interesting precursor to a cool moment i shared today.
so, while in the Detroit airport waiting for my connection home, i met this nice gentleman (cute old guy) waiting like i was for the same flight and we passed the 2 hours time together chatting. last minute we had to change gates so we settled in again into our new seats.
he said to me, "you never told me what you do for a living?" i secretly always dread answering this question cause, well, it really doesn't translate well to non-scrapbooking society. so i reply, "i am an editor for a scrapbooking magazine."
as i finished my sentence the woman next to me on the other side taps me on the shoulder and says..."ooh which scrapbooking magazine?" i say...
..."the one you are reading!" that has never happened to me before and i was so caught up in conversation i hadn't even looked over at her. if you are reading HI ANN!!
she has just started scrapbooking and had always been an avid quilter. she was inspired to scrapbook because her tiny granddaughter was born with a heart defect and she wanted to tell the story (really i have chills). she said it is the only magazine she subscribed to and it was only her 3rd issue (nov/dec) she had received thus far.
she then said to me...
"just out of curiosity have you ever done any digital scrapbooking, i have heard a lot about it and wanted to try it but wasn't sure how?"
OK, so i reach into my bag and take out my still unreleased copy of Renee Pearson's new book Digital Design for scrapbooking. ok, this book takes you step by step through the whole digital learning process.
how perfect was that? no really?
the 2 random ladies sitting across from us, quickly introduced themselves to each other just to make sure they didn't have a common link...it was kinda funny.
we boarded the plane and before we taxied out she took my info so i hope she it reading!!!
here's to good karma!
how funny!!! I met Mark Zoellner's brother (sp??) at a restaurant opening a couple weeks ago. he told us when we asked to have our picture taken with him (ya know, cuz we are scrapbookers and take pictures of EVERYTHING!). my friend was wondering if having him in the layout would give her a better chance of being published! lol!!

Donna--
How cool! That really had to make you feel like a "celebrity"!!! Imagine the story Ann will have to tell next time she is with her scrapping buddies!!!

Donna . . . such a cool story! Now, every time she sees one of your layouts, I'm sure she'll think "I talked to her in an airport this one time. . .and she was just so sweet!"

You were at Detroit Metro? I live 1.5 miles from there. I was that close to Donna Downey. Cool.

Look at you spreading scrapbook joy!
I SO believe in Karma -- good things happen to good people. If you are mean, it will bite you in the butt! (OK, so that is not a quote from the doctrine. just how I see life.)
Glad you made it back home safe.

Posted by: Kass | October 12, 2005 at 09:22 PM
That is SO cool! And I am so mad at you (not really, of course) I so would've stalked you at the airport had I known... but then again, that would have interfered with this fate, huh?! :O) Next time you are anywhere near Detroit/Ann Arbor, please let me stalk you! LOL!

Oh, man...Donna, you were in my city! Damn!!!!! Glad you got to have that experience at the airport.

That is a way cool story...and I was going to post, also, that dang...you were here for 2 hours and you didn't tell us???? I see that you would have had quite the little groupie following greeting you if you had! ROFL!!! I would have been there. All I did today was clean, Donna Downey at the airport would definitely have been more noteworthy.

Love that story! Actually, I had something similar happen while sitting in the Oklahoma City airport a few months ago. Definitely a feel good moment. :)

What a cool story! My closest brush with fame in an airport is when I heard someone that sounded amazingly like Tone Loc (of Funky Cold Medina) behind me. Turned around and it WAS him. That voice is seared into my brain from my college years, lol.

What a cool, fun story Donna!!!
Posted by: Tonia | October 13, 2005 at 11:06 PM
It happened because you were open to it happening! You were being a nice person and actually talking to strangers! When you walk around with a positive vibe about you, it works like a self fulfilling prophesy - it draws other positive energy to you! (This is also key in dating too and why desparate women never find men.) I digress. If you are into karma, check out the most fun new show on TV, My Name Is Earl. My favorite!

My friend Kim told me about you blog. I came to check it out. I love the story that you told what a blessing. I don't however believe in Karma. I think you simply were blessed today! Praise God! I also feel I was blessed to hear this moment in your life. Thank you for sharing. It brought me joy!

"Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma... Chameleon!"...hehehehe!
(You know I just HAD to insert that for a giggle).
I think I'd be stoked if I just happened to sit next to you on a plane too, d.
hugs~

And you told us, while you were in NH, that you weren't a VIP.
Posted by: Kim | October 14, 2005 at 10:00 PM
K...so...I don't believe in karma, per se...I believe you reap what you sow...sort of the same thing, sort of not...but anyway...(I'm having fun with the little dots, today. Can you tell?)...I think you were GRACEFUL...to paraphrase a U2 song, Grace is outside of karma...its a gift...you gave of yourself...and there was a Divine appointment there for you that you would not have kept if you were not a graceful person...
Cool...so totally cool...
TFS!!!

Hi Donna!
It's Ann from the airport. I JUST told this story to my family tonight and then got on your blog and read your post!! I just want to thank you again for the book. As soon as I got home, I looked through my scrapbooking stuff and found that I have one of your books already - 'creative albums'. Apparently, I liked your style even before I knew who you were! This shows how really new to scrapbooking I am. Thanks again!
