i give you rock art!
funny thing, my mom called me last night to tell me that when i was little i used to collect rocks just like Payton. thought that was a cool connection and certainly there is a page LO in that moment shared.
went to old navy today...bought me a hat! yes a cowboy hat, what have those texans done to me? and i also bought some new summer tops.
i went to find shorts...well those to the knee types, i DO NOT WEAR SHORTS! i wear jeans, capris and long skirts all summer long.. anyway, what is with the ultra low rise crap! every pair of capris and long shorts were ultra low rise. since when do they only make pants for girls with no junk in their trunk! i am outraged!
ok, just thought i would share my thought of the day!
and i wanted to say thank you to Melissa Lightbody for sending me this link today...irock. made me totally smile and i think Cathy should get it for her rockin' out little guy Cole.
I so hear ya on the pants!!
And I love the rock art and the story connecting you to Payton. As always, thanks for sharing.

Hi! Long time no post....He He well I hear yah on the low rise..having some junk in my trunk shopping for pants is totally almost as bad as bathing suit shopping.
Take Care - Good Luck Finding Capris/ Knee Shorts (PS I don't wear shorts either)

And...did you know...that if you have a bit'o'junk...and it hangs OVER the top of your low-rise pants....it is called...a "muffin-top"?
I kid you not...
I was informed by a very hip 11 year old...and confirmed it on urbandictionary.com...
sigh...
There just ain't no justice for my junk....

Hey Donna, check out the Bass outlet if you have one near you - they have shorts that are almost to the knee and ones a bit past the knee - true bermudas and they are not low rise or the unflattering MOM rise! Also, thought of ya this weekend - Target in my area had some new cool magnets - magnetic file folders for the fridge, mini-clipboards with magnets, and magnets that say YOU ROCK! (came in a package with a few others.) :) Love the rocks!

Fun rock Art! I should do this with my kiddos.
My son would love that bedding, too cute!

Donna,
Girl! I am trying so hard to rock on with all the junk in my trunk...I have outlawed O.N. I go in to the dressing room and come out down right depressed! It is so ugly...right now I am all about Eddie Bauer capris...being vertically challenged and all I love their capris...check them out...I bet you are too cute in a cowboy...can't wait to see that picture...have a great day!

Right on!! They should ban "low rise" anything. I have serious junk in my lovely trunk and I like it...what I hate is trying to fit into anything these days thanks to low rise.
I too have taken Old navy off my faves list. They are really cutting their clothes in the weirdest way...
No more low rise!! No more low rise!!! No more low rise!!!! (picture me holding a signe outside every mall...LOL).
Posted by: Ana Magloire | June 05, 2006 at 06:38 PM
I don't do shorts. Period. After birthing four children I don't have junk in the trunk - I got it under the hood - the jelly roll, spare tire, flap o skin that flops over the low rise. No thanks. Those British fashion chicks on Oprah say shorts are not flattering on anyone anyway so I stick to skirts. And to those of you skinny Minnies who can pull off the low rise, hats off to you!
Posted by: kate | June 05, 2006 at 07:01 PM
OMG, you hit the nail on the head! I don't even have much junk in my trunk but can't stand to have my pants so low that when I sit down my pants go so low it shows things I don't want others to see!!! When will this style end? I love the bermuda shorts but have a hard time finding them with a high enough waist. Although I will say I found some at Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft. You might try there.
It's so nice to have someone I can relate to...thanks for sharing your days with me.

I am with ya girl on the banning the low rise business !!!!!!!!!!!!

This whole low-rise thing -- makes me slightly ill. You think it's bad shopping for yourself -- try shopping for your daughter. "No, honey, it's just bad to look like a slut"....... "Mo-om, you are SO out of it!"
SIGH!
The low rise look is NOT attractive, even on athletes (thinking of a swim-season banquet dinner, and seeing too many naked bellies poufing out over the pants/skirts -- in December, in Michigan, in the cafeteria, not in the pool!). NOT a good look.....
-- Vicki, *very* grateful to wear men's jeans (men's 501s fit better than anything......)
ps -- one day in high school they had "gender swap" day -- boys wore "girl" clothes, and girls wore "boy" clothes. My daughter wore some of my husband's pants, with one of my belts, for the sloppy too-big look. She reported at the end of the day that the "boy" clothes were a lot more comfy than the tighttight "girl" clothes she wears on a regular basis.
Well duh! (I'm sure that wasn't the most politic response I could have made, but there it is..........)

i cannot and will not do low rise anything!!! i would hurt someone!!!LOL!
Posted by: stephanie215 | June 05, 2006 at 08:01 PM
the real problem is that 94% of the people that DO wear these low rise pants should not.
Posted by: Tami | June 05, 2006 at 08:17 PM
Rock art rocks!
I like low rise (to below the really fat part of my belly) but ultra low is too far for me -- I hate the feeling that they're about to come off. Did you see the fake ad on SLN for "Coin Slot" creme? (and I'ms ure we can all visualize the coin slot they are refering to)
Shorts must be lonnnnngggggg for me to feel dressed in them. Old Navy had some last year that were stretch and came to the knee. Loved those things!

Girlfriend..I know all about Junk in the trunk!! he he I so can relate with the low rise anything! The girls who can wear those more power to them!! he he. Love the cool rocks!!

check Tarjey for shorts, they have the near the knee ones right now.

Love the rock painting party :)
And I so agree with the ultra low rise stuff...
what the heck is that all about??
Good luck with your bermuda short search.
You'll have to let us know when you find the perfect pair!

I am with you on the low rise thing! My poor daughter wears adult size clothing and at Old Navy, where we like some of the styles...they ONLY offer LOW rise or ULTRA FREAKING LOW RISE? Sheesh!
Forget it Old Navy! We'll head elsewhere ;)
:)
DIGGING the rock painting! My kids are rock collectors! Got it from my hubby!
Posted by: Maureen | June 05, 2006 at 08:39 PM
Thank you Donna...I feel much better now. There is not a pair of pants at Old Navy that I can wear for that same reason. I am a mother of three and my body does not work like that anymore. Three c-sections and wider hips does not work with low rise. I have hips...give me something to work with. Now don't get me wrong I love old navy...just wish they would make a jean or pants to fit me.... Love their tops though!!!
peace

All this time I thought it was only me! Now I feel so much better! LOL!
My muffin top & I will shop elsewhere too! I actually found some comfy shorts at Costco recently.

I am loving the rock art! If Garret keeps bring them is I wll try the paint thing!
We've got a ton of them since we technically live on Upper Stonyville Reservoir. Lots and lots of little rocks and then huge ones..... I was thinking of glow in the dark paint (Crayola by Benjamin Moore makes it) for the ones I can't move ;)
I can't do the low rise, although what Levis calls mid-rise I can wear w/o the muffin effect and have it not do the coming up too high bit. Kohl's carries the Levis shorts and skorts and I have been lucky with them. And I actually found a Gloria Vanderbuilt (blast from the 80's) skort that was really comfortable. And I'm 36 w/ a kid so i don't want some micro mini thing, I need something that maybe a couple of inches above the knee like the rest of you...
See you in Charlotte Donna! I'll have the sweets to share.
Posted by: Eleena | June 05, 2006 at 10:04 PM
I feel your pain, Donna! I've been looking for a cute pair of camoflauge (sp?) capris. No luck. Until...I went to Target yesterday and found a pair of long shorts in the mens dept.! Love them! And I look cute in them, too! Bonus! Keep on lookin', girl! I'm a walking Muffin Top and damn proud!!!
Take care!

Yeah, I was hearing the discussion about "rise" last Friday night at a church girl's camp meeting. Here were these skinny-little-no-rear girls talking about not wanting to look like they're wearing "granny pants". Sigh....I am not a grandma......
Posted by: Catherine | June 06, 2006 at 12:50 AM
I am right there with you on the low rise. I don't to it. Love the "muffin top". I totally have that action going on, not that I want anyone seeing it. I just think that it is gross when the muffin top and the crack in back is showing. What is even worse is the thong straps pulled up over the sides of the muffin top!!!!!!
I love the rock painting. I used to collect rocks when I was a kid too. My grandma, now deceased, used to collect them with me. She would alway put them in a special tin bucket that she has at her house. When she passed away, my uncle threw them away before we got there for the funeral (we lived across the country from her). I was very sad and wished that I could have had that bucket of rocks.
Have a great day. As always love reading your comments.

I love the rock art!! It looks cool. Hmmmmm hard to get excited about summer when we have just hit winter in New Zealand. But I hear ya on finding clothes that are not low rise.
Posted by: Janine | June 06, 2006 at 05:32 AM
okay all you ladies were talking about the junk in your trunk... and the muffin top.. no one chatted about the "DUN-LAP" you know that puff that dun-laps over the top of the low rise parts.. iiiccckkk... from what i heard in that fashion world. the waist bands are on the rise.. just taking a bit of time to get here... us mommies are just gonna have to wait.. not liking the fact that if i want jeans they are what i call "TEACHER BUTT" or "MOMMY JEANS" ( sorry all you teachers out there) but true ,i bet you can think back to a time when you were in school and there was a teacher that had more pants than shirt showing... sheesh... not going there bad memeory... bring me to my happy place.. bring me to my happy place.. so yeah definately look for that skort deal.. wally world has some great skorts by white stag.. cute.. target has fabulous bermuda shorts by messio and they are stretch and go right to the knee... adorable.. worth every penny... i believe they are ready for this..12.99.. just think years ago the shirts were showing more of our dun-lap over and now they are getting longer.. just not ready for that tunic..uuuggghh now that is another subject all by it self... leggings and tunic's LOL

OMG! I went to get some capris a couple weeks ago and had the same problem with those low rise pants. Every one I tried on were low-rise! It was making me crazy. I did find some cute longer shorts in Coldwater Creek and last year I found some at the Bass outlet and Eddie Bauer and I love them! Good luck on your hunt and let us know where you find them because I'm sure that store will love all the business you send them! LOL Oh, almost forgot, love the rocks!

I am totally with you on the low rise thing. I am so happy I was pregnant a few years ago and still had my stuff when I had baby #2, otherwise I don't know what I would have done since everything was low rise.
Glad you liked the bedding.

Thank you so much for posting that link to the kids bedding place - - I have been hunting for a source for a canopy for my dd's "princess" bed for ages without success. They had it! Thanks, Donna!

Totally understand the pants problem. I don't do shorts either. I like the long ones that come to the knee or just below. I bought some cargos at American Eagle, love em.
Love the rock pictures. Your kiddos are too cute.

Okay. I thought I was the only one left with a spaghetti strainer like that!!
Posted by: Donna Carroll | June 06, 2006 at 10:25 AM
LOL about the shorts and low rise! I prefer to wear black sheets that cover everything!! hee hee...
Posted by: cindy | June 06, 2006 at 10:52 AM
hey, me too!! i have a strainer like that. and i have a 4 yr. old grandaughter. and i have rocks. and i think we're going to paint! i think i must rock.
(how about some shirts that say, "my grandkids ROCK!")

Ok, here's a solution to the low-rise problem---buy mens shorts! I traveled with a friend & her two daughters, and the youngest (9) looked so cute running around in these nifty almost-to-the-knee faded olive green cargo shorts. When I commented to my friend she said they were boys shorts! Ah ha! This year when short shopping on a lark I tried on some mens cargos at Old Navy----YES! They were a perfect fit, not granny-pant high, but not butt crack low, right in between where they're most comfy! I still like my regular shorts purchased 2-3 years ago, but for those not quite hot days, or days I'm out painting & want a bit more coverage, these mens cargos are terrific! They also hold a camera, phone, driver's license & cash without needing a purse ;)! I soon bought a 2nd pair so I wouldn't be w/out while the other was in the laundry.
I also went through a difficult time finding jeans a few years ago until I tried on my husband's 501 Levis one day---they too came to the right height at my hips/waist, so invested in a pair of my own---they're now the only jeans I'll wear! I love how they fit, although they're not quite the same size I wore in college... ;)! My friend jokes about me becoming a cross-dresser...but hey, if they're comfy & look good, I'm sold!

Am COMPLETELY with you on that pants thing! Helllooo! can we say some (most, let's be honest) of the American female population wears an average of a size 10 and doesn't have flat abs to show off?! Anyway...I love, love LOVE your rock painting idea...Clay would TOTALLY go for that, so I think I need to go to the family farm and steal rocks from the driveway and have a little painting party...thanks for the idea! Golly, what I wouldn't give to have you as a neighbor! Wanna help make freezer jam? *grin*
Posted by: Dawn | June 06, 2006 at 05:31 PM
Ditto everything!
BUT can't believe no one is complaining about the high rise tops. If I squeeze into my low risers - and I draw the line at my belly button - Then I can't find cute tops that will cover my jelly roll (don't have a full out muffin top just yet). If I raise my arms then everyone run for your sunglasses my white belly is going to make an appearance.
I see the teenagers w/ the layered tank tops - which come down lower - but I don't do bare shoulders either! Isn't there's a name for arm flab too?
Well - thanks for the laugh!

I gave up on ON when a medium top was waaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too small for my size 5 SIL. Hello!?? Since when did a size 5 become a large or x large? If size 5 is large, then theres nothing in THAT store for my beautiful size 14 and 16 self! You tell them, Donna!
Posted by: Kim | June 07, 2006 at 08:06 AM
I totally agree with you I no long shop at old navy well maybe for flip flops and a few tops but not often! On the increase in the low rise world i just got a pair of capri at Target cute cute cute!!! but i was in a hurry so i didnt try them on just bought them. They were low rise! I dont wear low rise nor do I look like i should lol. Now there seems to a problem my zipper wants to just randomly come down!!!! It is so annoying to have look everytime i get out of the car lol...

this is a fabulous idea for kids. my bean, who's three, loves to pick up rocks and put them in our pockets anytime, anywhere. this is a great way for her to "save" them. she loves rocks and she loves to paint - perfect!! thanks for sharing!!

Ok LOVING this post!!!
I just got some new jeans where I didn't have a muffin top, (I think low rise jeans should be OUTLAWED) But I have some serious TEACHER BUTT, so I need to get to the States QUICK to get some Levis and a Donna Shirt and some CROCS.
I need them something shocking!
