yep it is wednesday...
you know what makes a wednesday even better, a new hair cut.
went to barb, my hairdresser today. we have known each other for years now. we first met at the school that i was a teacher and she was on the PTA. me the "t" she the "p".
we have been friends ever since and the occasional drinking buddies.
anyway, why did i tell you that?
because she never even flinches when i come in to the salon.
i say, this time BIG chunky platinum streaks...she says OK.
i say, this time, MORE big chunky platinum streaks...she says OK.
i say cut it short she says...OK and i always walk out with exactly the cut and color i want.
well today i said, "barb, do you have any green?"
she laughed, called me crazy and came out from the mixing room and said, "nope, no green"
i wanted to add a green stripe to match my glasses into my hair. ya know, subtle...yet bold.
we tried concocting something, but it really didn't take. if you look in the right light you may see a green tint to a piece but it will surely wash out by next week.
i think i might need to find a single green hair extension...might be something i look for in Paris. sounds like a hip Paris thing right? it certainly is not a NC thing...LOL!
before she started on me today, she warned me that she would be taking out some of my blonde streaks because as she put it, "if i bleach your hair one more time it will fall out." on that note i gave her full reign on my head.
i still have blonde streaks just a few less (however i still think i am bad girl, with or without the blonde hair...ha!)
here is the aerial view of my head!
i also decided to go for a new cut. it is longer in the front than in the back...think i am going to let it grow.
anyway in other news, for my birthday my hubby bought me these from old navy.
initially i thought, old navy it not for chicks with curves, but you know what...they fit!
score!
and last but not least for my post filled with useless information, i got this from fiskars today
besides the fact that it has a cool as hell design, it actually cuts STRAIGHT!
so awesome!!
ok that is enough thought purging for the day!
have a good one!
HI Donna!! I'm the first comment - WHY can't it be a give away day?? LOL!! LOVE the do!!

cuts straight? What a novlety!
Love the new do. MAybe I can find a green piece for when you visit us VERY VERY soon!
Are the pants low riders, or are they normal? Inquiring muffin tops want to know!

So you're telling me I'm not the only one to have STRAIGHT issues w/my paper cutter? hmm, and I thought it just didn't like me1

Man! I was just cursing my fiskars! Even my big one wasn't cutting straight. Grrrr.
So, how big is this one?

Love the hair.. I can relate to the green bits. I have always wanted my hair Cookie-Monster blue. The colour is gorgeous. I don't think my stylist believes me. One day I'll do it. Enjoy. Your new trimmer looks great! I wannit!
Posted by: Jenny | September 20, 2006 at 05:08 PM
GREAT hair...a little green clip in might be fun...you know, since Halloween is so close, you MIGHT find a clip in in the costume aisle!
GREAT pants...
GREAT cutter - but you keep showing all this cool fiskars stuff and I'm having trouble finding it anywhere!!!! I live in Matthews..I have a darn Michael, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore, Target and Memories store all in one small area...and still I cannot find these jewels!!! WHERE can a lowly little scrapbooking girl like me get it?
Posted by: Felecia | September 20, 2006 at 05:20 PM
Yeah, WHERE did you get this (the cutter)? The Fiskars website says "coming soon." So how and where did you get a hold of it. It is so cute.
Posted by: Donna | September 20, 2006 at 05:44 PM
Donna...
Hair cut is CUTE. I like it a lot. I'm a pink girl, and have dyed bits of my hair pink before. Try manic panic. Go to a salon supply store (sally beauty in my area) and request the colors. Those weird colors won't be perm ever, they are semi perm (wash out in a week or 2 for me, but they say like 6 weeks or something). It's cheap too, $6 a bottle to be the cool mom with green hair. I say go for it.

I am 38 and have some purple in my hair. Some may think "she is crazy" but I like it and my kids think I am uber cool. I have super short hair like Cathy Z. so I am a risk taker anyway. Go green girl!
Posted by: Julie | September 20, 2006 at 06:25 PM

Posted by: Paula | September 20, 2006 at 06:54 PM

Donna: If you want green you need to look into the goth and punk hair colors. When next you are in a city that you see a large collection of kids that have that hair and clothing ask where they get their hair done. There has to be at least ONE salon that does that coloring professionally for the bands in the city. If I come across the brand or color I will email it to you and you can take it to your hair dresser. My mom used to be a hairdresser/ colorist (she still does mine) and my sister was every color but blue....she looked very cool in eggplant and in what I called coral ; ) So If you want the green strip go for it, but start with the temporary 4 week color. I loved doing that, and being blonde it took really well on treated hair!!! You wouldn't know that about me now though.
Posted by: Eleena | September 20, 2006 at 07:12 PM
Try green Kool-aid! That is what all the "kids" were doing years ago when they wanted red.
Posted by: Linda | September 20, 2006 at 07:21 PM
I am wearing those same pants in dark brown right now. Love them. And love your new 'do.
Does that trimmer really cut straight? Honestly? I am on the never-ending quest for the trimmer that actually works.
Posted by: Angi | September 20, 2006 at 08:00 PM
I love the hair. New cuts and chuncky highlights rawk.
And that paper cutter looks awesome! I'm going to keep an eye out for that one!
Posted by: Jennifer | September 20, 2006 at 08:05 PM
I was going to suggest manic panic or punky color. That is what I used as a teenager, they have fun colors!
Where did you get that cutter? My dh said he saw a fiskars one that is a slider and the guillotine in one. Maybe I should look for this one though.

Gotta love the look of that Fiskars. Can't wait to see it hit the stores. Give it a good try and let us know how you like it.

I saw those pants and thought they needed ironed. So, passed. Let me know your take on them.
Posted by: hates ironing | September 20, 2006 at 10:05 PM
It seems like everytime you purge your thoughts I end up buying something lol Thank you Donna
Posted by: Araxi | September 20, 2006 at 10:55 PM
Hey Donna! If you can't find green, we have a fake pink and purple ponytail at our house.
Posted by: Jeanelle | September 20, 2006 at 11:08 PM
Yes, Donna. You want green hair extensions. My stylist (and friend like your) says that regular hair dye fades too fast. The new extensions always keep their cool color. I know about this because I wanted to put light pink highlights in my blonde hair this summer (I am 38 by the way). Also, the cost of extenions I wanted were too expensive for a mere whim. Maybe next year. Let me know if you want to know where to get them.
Posted by: LoriHudson | September 20, 2006 at 11:12 PM
I put some bright orange extensions in my hair once. They were made from real hair and cost about 8$ (can) each. They lasted really well too, they don't lose their color at all, I wore them until they fell out.
I can vouch for hair burning off from bleach!! I'm sporting some 'short' layers that are a direct result of too much bleach at the salon! LOL!! I finally gave up on the blonde and I'm a chocolate brown girl now.

Spealking from one curvy girl to another - I have the best luck with Old Navy. They have the only pants that fit me. I got some super cute capris this summer and bought them in every color.
Posted by: Naida | September 21, 2006 at 08:07 AM
Hey love the hair cute! I've always though Old Navy could handle curves...its the GAP that can't! lol Trust me I know ...too many curves (or is that bumps??) here! LOL
Have a good one Donna!

I envision a photo of you with your snazzy glasses, green streak of hair and your green fiskars drill standing in front of the Eiffel Tower.
That would be an awesome photo!

Love the new do!! Tell your stylist to throw in some manic panic... electric lizard would match your frames pretty well. They are semi permanent but they also have a gel that washes right out. It's called Dye Hard. Lots of fun :)
Here's a link so you can check it out...

You can order them online if you can't find them locally.
Have fun!!

Cute hair BTW!

I have that trimmer - I love that trimmer! Love the new hair, btw, too! Very rockin!!!!
Posted by: stephenie | September 21, 2006 at 11:45 AM
So, this is my first post but I read your blog ALL THE TIME!! Yours, by far, is my favorite. I can see your personality through your posts. Anyway, totally love the hair. It rocks and as you say...Donna Downey Rocks!! I just love the glasses. I don't wear glasses but I am almost convinced I am going to wear them with just plain glass in them just to look cool. I want a pair of those pants...might have to hit Old Navy. Well, enough boring you for now...just wanted to post my very first comment!! You ROCK!!
Posted by: Leah Loy | September 21, 2006 at 12:30 PM
Why is it that your green hair makes me think of that episode of MASH where they all dyed their hair??? Man, I miss that show...
But back to you.... love the new cut and the new pants, and especially that trimmer!
Posted by: Jennifer Sizemore | September 21, 2006 at 12:36 PM
Love the new haircut!
Posted by: Anna Beth | September 21, 2006 at 01:37 PM
Love the new cut and color. I just went and had my shoulder length hair feathered down the sides, yes like the 70s. Love that you are doing your own thing and so am I in my small town.
Posted by: barb in gilbertsville | September 21, 2006 at 01:47 PM
Love the pants! Old Navy is great for us curvy girls....but I still think your dh is either crazy or very brave for clothes shopping for you for your birthday. Mine would rather have a root canal without novacaine than do that!
I so hope that you are right about that trimmer...getting so tired of ones that don't cut straight and don't want to spend the $$ and wait a year for the Genesis.
Posted by: Nancy Nally (ScrapNancy) | September 21, 2006 at 03:11 PM
What a friggin' concept - a trimmer that cuts a STRAIGHT LINE.
Trust me, I have been there, done that. You need to post details - make, model, etc. While I'm cutting straight now, I know I could do better.
Posted by: Laurel | September 21, 2006 at 03:29 PM
One word: ENABLER!!!!
Posted by: Leslie | September 21, 2006 at 04:17 PM

LOVE IT!!
Posted by: Suezi | September 21, 2006 at 09:56 PM
okay, I read your site all the time but never comment, but feel compelled to do so with the new do pictures...I am your Texas twin, though it be a little "curvier" version ( I'm workin' on it!!!) and with the new hair cut pictures, I just had to respond. When you posted pics of you and your kids remodeling your dining room a few months ago, my kids kept asking who those other kids were helping me paint and what room was I in? So my kids have certainly picked up on it and then I asked my husband to check it out...he concurs. Saw the pic today, I have the same style goin' on. I'm planning on the Austin classes in November, so I'll see you there.

And I Loved meeting you at CE. (Walka*Mowlie, remember?) ;-)
Like someone else said, you're an enabler. I think I'm going to look into that trimmer. I need one that is portable AND makes square cuts. (Has someone actually heard us?) Oh, and thanks for the Old Navy heads up. cool pants.
