it is a real treat when my studio is clean enough for all of us to set up around my work table and play. my kids have always had free range of anything in my studio with the only rules being:
- they ask for permission first
- they respect my supplies
- they return it back from where they got it.
i have until this day never had a problem with them using anything. kinda a blessing!
payton is my artist!
i mean no disrespect to my other 2 children because they love to create as well, but payton enjoys the process and has specific ideas and perspectives to what she creates.
since as far back as i can remember she has collected bits of paper, string, rocks, fabrics, etc and stashed them in her room. she often spends hours gluing and transforming these bits into pieces of art. it is amazing what this kid can do with lint! She is free-spirited, passionate, and takes creative risks.
Mckenna enjoys the completion of tasks. the accomplishment is the reward. she is goal oriented, focused, confident and linear. can you tell? look at her canvas compared to paytons in this photo. they both started painting at the same time, however payton had to look through all the colors and choose a palette for her creative idea, Mckenna completed the painting and then decorated the front.
(cole is not pictured here because he painted for 4.5 minutes and his friend came to the door and he was outta here! LOL! he is not the artist, he is the performer...)
this is payton's finished piece entitled, "chocolate rain". i love that she titled it!
This months Creative Playground trash to treasure challenge is to use the bits and pieces of your stash to create something new with. i would love to see what you can come up to and am accepting submissions for the march newsletter so get them in before friday.
simply email me your submission at [email protected] and put the word "BITS" in the subject line and you could be featured artist in the march newsletter!!

Don't you just love children's art? They are so free spirited because they don't really know about limitations and boundaries. It's such a joy to take a piece of art created by a child and put a terrific frame around it. It makes each piece a masterpiece!
Congratulations girls! Both your art pieces are just lovely! Keep creating. :)

Payton's artwork, entitled "chocolate rain" is almost as beautiful as her eyes. Did you "digitally enhance" that color?

I love how your kids are involved with art. I hope one day (when I have a child) that they will be involved with my art as well.

I have missed stopping by your blog regularly. I love that you not only model how important the expression of our inner selves and creative muse to your childre, but you also encourage and nurture it. So many people don't allow their kids into their creative space or to use their supplies.
