Can you believe Bill and I are stranded in Duesseldorf, Germany by volcanic ash? A volcano, really??
We have tried planes, trains, automobiles, boats, and ferries to get to England today! You name it, we tried it, just short of swimming the channel ourselves. We were on our way to craft with the Brits at Your Touch of Craft this weekend as we were hit by a errupting volcano. Sounds like something from a movie. We are so sorry we are not able to get to you this weekend. However don't worry, we are planning on making this up to you as we speak.
So now we sit in a hotel room with a broken laptop, no English speaking TV channels, missing our little ones at home! We are hoping and praying that we will be able to find a flight home in the next couple days!! Wish us luck.
oh my gosh, I thought about you last night when i heard about the grounding of the planes. take care we are thinking about you really we are.

tell me about it!! I was meant to fly to Amsterdam yesterday - but here I still sit in the US *sad sigh*
I think you are lucky LOL - I said to my DH - I wish we were there and getting an extended time over there... now it looks as though my holiday is not happening at all :-(

I wondered if you'd be caught up in it all. It's bizarre here with all flights grounded.
Posted by: emily | April 16, 2010 at 10:23 AM
Yup, I can totally believe it! All over the news. Europe is at a standstill... I don't know if the Italian news is exaggerating but they say it's all frozen for at least 24 hours!

Can I say that even though you are stranded...there are worse places to be stranded?? lol I loved Germany - have fun with your extra time!!! :)

Hey Donna!
It´s really crazy that nobody can fly somewhere!
I hope for you, that you can fly home as soon as possible.
And thank you for the WONDERFUL evening yesterday. It was so funny and I´ve learnd so much from you. (Your Heart will get a special Place in my Album!) :)
Wish you the best...

To be honest it sounded like something out of a movie, all our planes grounded even Norwich (tiny airport on east coast) and the surreal thing is we have blue skys here in uk - id been watching flash forward and thought omg here we go lol
So hope you make it over the channel soon xxxxx

You and Bill need to go to a cafe and get a spaghetti ice :) Then take a ton of pictures to document this crazy happening :) Germany is beautiful, so you have that going for you :)

I thought about you and Bill when I heard about the volcano/ash situation. It really is such a freaky thing. I am sure you are ready to come home but most important is to come home safely.

At least you are stranded with your honey and not alone. Enjoy your time together. Hope you will be able to find a way out and not have to swim the channel. Have a safe trip when you are able.

Hi Donna and Bill,
Hope the flights get sorted soon. It's chaos at our airports even here in Australia with all flights to Europe cancelled. Lots of dissapointed Aussies and also Europeans trying to get home. But hey, I never get upset about things like that because I'd rather be safe on the ground than risking it up in the air if there is some danger.
Glad you have Bill with you Donna and you're not there on your own. Love to you both. Stay safe.
Lisa (and Duncan) xxx

that sucks! I hope you guys are ok and that you can catch a flight out soon.

So you can learn a little bit more German, like Bügeleisen, Bindestrich, Liebling and so on...;-)
I hope you can fly home very soon! I enjoy the evening with you, it was so much fun! And go outside, there are so nice places to see in Düsseldorf!

I could pick you up and transport you to a Dutch hotel, at least you could watch CNN and other English television!
Wish you luck and hope you can travel back home soon!

Damn Volcano!
Posted by: Jeanelle | April 16, 2010 at 08:32 PM
Wow...what an adventure! I hope you don't run out of money. Try a ship down the Rhone or something to another big city/train station. I'll be thinking of you.

Just as long as you have each other to cuddle with, every else will fall into place.
Posted by: Foxy Mama | April 17, 2010 at 12:04 AM
This is so bizarre. Sorry you're stranded, but glad you're together. Broken computer? You really have no luck travelling with computers. No skype...no tv...primitive travel sucks! Looks like you'll have to try all the delicious wines Germany has to offer since you have free time on your hands.
Hope you get a flight out soon, and know we're thinking of you both.

I am really sorry you are stranded. I will be praying for your safe return
Posted by: cheryl | April 17, 2010 at 01:25 AM
they( the us news) are talking no flights until maybe monday... but volcano is still erupting, and they are really not sure when flights will resume... good luck!

Ah yes my MIL might get stranded on the Canaray Islands tomorrow. Can't you give an extra workshop in Düsseldorf or The Netherlands now you're stranded here anyway? I would definately come!
Have you visited the Rheinturm yet? It has a fantastic view of Düsseldorf and the river. And have you discovered the chocolat shop at the Burgplatz? YUM!
Posted by: Thinkie | April 17, 2010 at 05:52 AM
Oh and go to Zons, it's a pretty little town along the river in the direction of Cologne, you could take a KD boat there.
Posted by: Thinkie | April 17, 2010 at 05:54 AM
Luck!. We wish that you can come back your home soon!.

I am one of the gutted Brits who was going to be there, and I got a call just before I was about to leave to drive to the venue on Friday afternoon....I am so disappointed (but not angry) as this was my 40th birthday pressie...now I am just praying that I can still make the rescheduled weekend.
I feel for you Donna & Bill...stuck away from your kids. UK airspace was due to open up this morning....and they have kept it closed for another 24 hours when they are going to review it again....and of course the ash cloud is heading over to northern Europe so it will only get worse.
Hope you get a flight home before too long.
Hugs

well, ok, but just as long as you're back in time for Inspired, or we're just going to have to start without you!
John Cleese hired a taxi for $5100 to drive him from Oslo to Brussels ... then he was hoping to take a train to London? is that even possible? ... how much would he have to pay to get to the front of those line-ups?
hope you're able to find a way home soon. safe journeys.

miserable! we lived in Portland Oregon when Washington state's Mt. St. Helen's blew. . .we know the mass confusion that can be caused! On the bright side, your children are safe and happy with relatives and you are with Bill instead of being alone. Hope you get home soon!
Posted by: mary | April 18, 2010 at 12:47 AM
That's right! I knew you went to Europe, but I didn't think about all of the grounded flights. How weird that your stranded because of volcanic ash! Did you ever think you would say that? Either way, I guess if I were to be stranded anywhere, Europe would be cool...:)
