Hey everyone! This is Melissa again. What's a girl to do when the bosses are away? Besides raid the m&m jar...PLAY of course. I haven't had the chance to use any of Donna's new Prima line so I grabbed a pack of canvas banners and got to work. The weather has been absolutely amazing so I decided to use a Spring theme and this is what I came up with....a tulip banner.
Here are the step by step instructions:
Scribble on two colors of gelatos overlapping a bit in the middle.
Use a wet paintbrush to smooth out the gelato and blend the two colors in the middle.
Keep adding water until you are happy with your background. It's okay if it's a little streaky, we're going to cover most of it up.
Zap it with your heat tool.
Use the flat side of a sponge brush to sponge clear gesso in the middle of your banner.
Sponge white gesso along the edges.
Get it nice and dry.
Color your tulip foam stamp with gelatos. Spritz lightly with water and then stamp on your banner.
More dryin'....
Outline your stamped tulip with a pitt pen.
For the finishing touches add a little bit of pink ball trim. Print a spring inspired quote and glue it over the stem. Repeat the steps for two more banners. Add some green burlap twine and hang up your handywork.
After the m&m raid I was hopped up on sugar and wondering what I should do with the last two banners in the pack. The sewing machine was out so I decided to sew two sides together (glue works too!) and make a little pocket. As a side note you should color your banner pieces AFTER you sew them. Or you might wind up with a q-tip cleaning yellow gelato off the feed dogs. So I've heard.
I think this would be really sweet hung on your nice neighbors door that gets your mail while you're away. Or the nightbor who keeps their dog in their own front yard.
After I finished this one I said CARROT oh my gosh it looks like a carrot. Or Alf's muzzle, you decide. And so I made one more.
WHEW thanks for sticking in there with me. I know this was an epic post. I rounded up the supplies needed for the tulip banner and made them in to a special kit. I gave it an awesome SALE price and I threw in the trim to make the carrot for free. YEP because the bosses are gone! And because I appreate you reading my ramblings I'd also like to give you a free "journey" fabric word with any order over $40. Just type "journey" in the comment section of your order.
I'll be back on Thursday, see ya then!
How crazy good! LOVE what you all made! I have never thought about using my gelatos on canvas...

It's a great looking do-it-yourself banner. It's a timeless tradition to keep these banners up and running all the time. And the best thing about it, whether it's for an occasion or a marketing method, it works just fine for all.
