My son just asked me the other day "Mum, why does Donna Downey show people how to make her art?". This is the perfect answer. Thanks for sharing Donna.

Exactly what I needed to read today. Unfortunately there are people in our lives who feel the need to only give you a "partial" of what they know...They must be so afraid of someone else doing more or better. I am more than happy to share everything I have learned from others or have taught myself in metalsmithing or art or anything else for that matter!!! Oh, and thank you for the most spectacular videos every week. I so look forward to them. Pour a cup of coffee and enjoy Donna and her talents!!!! Have a blessed weekend sweet lady!!!

The above comments say it all...you give so much; freely; without fear. When you clench your fists tight trying to hold in all the sand, it quickly slips away...but just open your hands and you hold so much. Great lesson for us all!
Thanks, Donna:)

So many just don't get it. I love that you are such a generous artist, and I know the more you teach the more you learn. You also seem to get great pleasure in seeing how others interpret what you teach, and I love that most about you. You are more inspiring than you know, and a true friend to all who dare to pick up the paintbrush. xo

Fabulous post - you are a super example of this motto in action. I've learned so much from your blog!

what a great sentiment. I used to be accused of giving away the barn with the horse when it came to ideas. "You can sell your ideas!" my friend would protest. I tried to explain that ideas are a dime a dozen what needs to be sold is the work to make the idea come to fruition.

I agree with this statement 100%. I can't understand why some artists remain secretive for fear of being copied. The wealth of good received when giving is so worth any possible risk.

This was written about you, Donna. Thanks for giving of your art and of yourself with every post!

So sooo true. I painted one night and some sentences came to me that just said it all. Im Norwegian so I will try to translate. It is something like this: No one owns the truth. Together we see the whole picture. Because knowledge is something we share with each other. I always feel humble and truly greatful when I have an aha moment or the lightbulb goes on, from learning from others. There are lessons and knowledge and gifts around every corner. If we just dare to share, give away and then we truly can feel grateful for receiving what we need from others. Thank you Donna, you are a great giver, an inspiration and I truly love the energy and joy you bring to the creative world♥

fyi quote from - Paul Arden, author of the book It's Not How Good Your Are, It's How Good You Want To Be, suggests giving away your good ideas.

VERY true. But I did just start singing "give it away give it away give it away now" for a moment when I saw your title. Keep up the inspiration girl.

This reminds me of the Ted Talk that Elizabeth Gilbert did about creativity - http://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html - about where our genius comes from. Your generosity is much appreciated and encourages more giving.
