trying a technique or a product for the first time on camera is always a scary idea, but this week it was totally worth the risk! i am in love with the "faux encaustic" look i tried today. And if trying one media wasnt enough, i used glazing liquid for the first time as well...SPECTACULAR!
this week's video is a must see!
supplies used:
Pure awesomeness. LOVE the faux encaustic. I wonder if Golden's matte medium might be a good substitute for the pouring medium or if that's too thin. What about self-leveling gel? Hmmmmmmmm! Play time!

Love! I've used encaustic wax, which is very fun, but this is a fabulous idea for journals! Off to create!

This inspiration wed. is awesome!!!! These pages are very cool. I loved seeing you step out experiment with new to you product. Now, I will need to track down pouring medium, and the book too. I have glazing liquid, I have had for years and never used. Time to experiment with glazing medium, and the amazing quote. That quote is just what I need to imbed in my art journal. Thank you thank you for this great inspiration wed. I am very inspired. I am amazed at how much you achieve in one day. I am working on a page inspired by the quote from 2wks ago, I am still working on it and it has been a week now. I am using product I have had for years and never used before. Inspiration wed. inspires me to use product before it solidifies. Thank you again for this and every inspiration wed., you inspire me to put it on the page. You sharing your bravery helps me to put it on the page.

Hi Donna
Julie Filatoff just emailed me with your link to the video. Thanks for promoting the book and I just love your video. You work just like me! We are both risk takers. I just finished teaching a Faux Encaustic class in Virginia Beach at Art and Soul. Since I wrote Surface Treatment Workshop I have discovered a lot of new products and fx. I leave Sunday to go to North Light to photo the fourth book, which is on Alternative Surfaces.
Here are a few tips that aren't in the book. DecoArt makes a product called Decoupage and it is fantastic for putting over acrylic so pages won't stick together. Or, if you have Liquitex clear gesso, dilute it with water and brush some on, let sit a few minutes and then wipe off. It will also keep your pages from sticking.
I hope to meet you on the workshop trail.
Best wishes.
Sandra

I needed a jump start (after a long vacation) so what better way to fire up than to watch an inspiration Wednesday. Today, of all days, I chose to follow along and work a page right along with you. Didn't have all the ingredients but had tons of fun just the same. Thanks for getting me in gear and I just know you will put your new techniques to good use--can't wait to see a canvas!
Posted by: justbea | May 02, 2013 at 06:56 PM
This is my favorite!!! The texture looks amazing in your close-up shots. When you said you were going to put that extra on a canvas, I was saying, "ooohh, I wanna see." What an exciting Inspiration Wednesday, Donna. Way to go, you risk taker!

Kismet! I was thumbing thru a magazine today, admiring the encaustic work, and wanting to try it, but not wanting to invest more money in supplies :) so I made a note to myself to investigate faux encaustic, and presto, bang! There you were! Thanks for taking that risk and sharing; my next visit to the art store will be to pickup those mediums.
Shine on!
