there are a dozen things i SHOULD be creating...
there are a dozen things i WANT to be creating...
and what am i doing? rearranging and organizing my (home) studio.
when things are too cluttered i find i cant think.
the clutter and the looming deadlines make me anxious...so i purge and reorganize!
some of you have seen my tiny studio space at home and know there arent many places to move, but i thought turning my work table so that i am now facing the window while i work will not only give me better natural light as i record, but also open up the space to maybe...dance, lol!
with the space more open i will have more room to paint BIG too!
just a little (procrastination) share today. i LOVE to see how people organize their creative spaces and i love working in a well organized space. hopefully i get back to work now, lol!
Glad to see I am not the only one in organization mode! I am have been purging and going through everything.

Thank you for sharing your gorgeous studio!! What do you keep in those plastic things you have hanging on the wall? Very cool!

There are times when organizing and ridding (and rediscovering treasures) jump starts my creativity. And you're right - it's hard to think when you're sitting in the middle of a mess!

Great space! I just re-did mine and am sharing pics today, as well. Procrastinators unite...tomorrow!

Me too on the purge front! Totally revamping my craft she cave and loving it. If only it were as easy to shed pounds as it is to shed, well, stuff. How happy I would be to have a fat yard sale. And if no one wanted it, then off it goes to the Goodwill. Ok, that was a total tangent but I do love your turquoise heaven and working by a window always brings in good energy! Thanks for sharing!!

Wow, what a nice space! Whenever I´m rearranging my work space, I can´t find my stuff any more. :-) Does that ever happen to you, too? Greets, Kat

can you be more specific? is it the colored cups you're referring to?
Posted by: donna downey | July 18, 2013 at 04:27 PM
That's what I like to do, too! I like to move things around when I can't get the creative juice going. Or simply got tired of how the room looks. My craft "cave" is quite empty now since we're in the process of moving to the house next door. I will have a slightly bigger room with doors! Not a cave anymore! So, yes! Let's dance!

I have watched your inspiration Wednesday for some time now I am no artist by any stretch of the imagination unlike yourself who's talent is immense. You make me feel that I could do it I could create a piece of art something I could even be proud of. You inspire me. You make me believe that if I let go all my inhibitions and just do it, it will be ok and its ok if no one else likes it because it will be meaningful in my eyes nothing else matters.
Thank you, and yes your creative space is fabulous but what comes from that space is beautiful, magical but above all inspirational.
May you continue to bring happiness especially to my wee creative soul over in Scotland, UK.

My IKEA art room is being installed next week. Your studio was my inspiration. Thank you for showing more of your studio than the STUDIOS magazine showed in the Spring 2013 issue.
BTW, love your work too!

About a year and a half ago, I came across your space and you inspired me to re-do my scrap space. At the time, I just had my small room with a mismatced array of stuff. Nothing really to store my oodles and oodels of stuff! So, I went to our home improvement store and bought do-it-yourself kitchen cabinets. I now have this fabulous space to work in, and I love it. I would have loved to paint my walls (what little you can see of them), with a bright color as you did with the turquoise, but my husband really whined, so a soft yellow it is!
But, my space never stays clean, and I am always organizing it (hmmm.....could be too much stuff? LOL). A space is what can give you the inspiration when creating, and I love having my goodies at hand and organized!
Happy creating, and thanks for sharing and keeping me inspired!

Oh how I would love to be digging thru your purge trash can!!!! Can you tell me the names of the paint on your wall?

I get my space sort of orgnized & then I drag in stuff from the seldom used storage in the garage & mess it all up again... It makes me crazy! The mess makes it harder to be creative!

I love it Donna! Dancing is good. Creating with toons is always more fun.

I Love this. From the previous photos I imagined it was HUGE. I am thrilled to see it is an achievable size and is just ... very clever and totally gorgeous. I have all mismatched pieces but love the sparkle of your room. Thanks for sharing this xx Michelle

I have always had my work table facing a window. I love the natural light. When I was facing a wall it kind of felt like a block. Now I can look up and my vision can go out and look at so many things to clear my head. My favorite is the rare occasion we get rain. I open the window a tad to smell and listen to the rain hit the roof. Yes, listening to rain is a big deal when you live in So Cal. :) Or the springtime I can hear the chirping of the baby birdies. But most of all is the great daylight and the perpetual view that goes on forever when i need to clear my head. I am in the process of a studio remodel as I type. It"s almost done except for a few things I need to spray paint to decorate it (and do we ever figure out the right storage solution?!?). I have the same Ikea cart in charcoal. My studio is white with accents of hot pink and black.

I've been thinking of organizing my studio a bit too. There's so much stuff I can't think. Just considered moving my desk to be by the window. After seeing your space I'm ready to make that move. Thanks for the inspiration.

Posted by: Douce Eilof | July 25, 2013 at 11:06 AM
Oh wow-i'm in love with the little roller cart :) Too bad my husband was up by Ikea last week! (3+ hr drive away) I've been resisting going into my studio lately and know it's time to do a switch-o/change-o in there to get me re-inspired but with windows lining all walls my storage stinks...thanks for the inspiration! Maybe I'll get in there today. :)
