Hey everyone! Donna left the blog in our hands and we are going to have a BLAST while she is gone! Bill, Stephen, and I (Melissa) each have 3 days to entertain you...
I am kicking off day one with a gelli plate tutorial using new Glitz Design wooden stamps and roller stamps.
I hope you enjoy my first video, please let me know what other videos or gelli techniques you'd like to see. I still have TWO more days *gulp* and we might be a tad competitive around the studio :)
If you live in NC I would love for you to join me for a gelli class in the Studio.
Supplies used:
padded mailer
110 lb. card-stock
Don't forget to leave a comment on the blog by 9:00 am EST August 30th. I will use rafflecopter to pick a winner.
Also if you have not had the chance yet, be sure to check out Donna's "the ART of GELLI prints" online workshop
Fun video with lots of info! Way to go Melissa! I might have to sign up for a class to learn more!

Thank you for all the information.

Great video Melissa! I have just started playing with gelli plates...so much fun. I love your techniques as I too like the subtle and textured layers. I have been seeing some wonderful mini art journals and handmade envelopes using deli paper. I would love to see you do a video using deli paper. It has that transparent look that I think would be awesome with your beautiful layers.

Melissa - great video w/ lots of information~! Never even thought about using stamps on my gelli :D Love to see something about how to incorporate prints into journals, etc.

Wow! I have never been terribly interested in gelli plates, but after watching this, I think I need to get one. What about using tombow or copic markers? Can you use watercolor sprays/ paints?
Thanks for the chance to win!

I would love to see the how-to involved with creating more than just a background. A scene? A picture? Is it possible?
Donna would be proud of you. :-)

I enjoyed the video. I find it fascinating to watch 3-D printing; keys, washers, etc. But, beyond that I'd really like to see what you do with your finished papers.

Love the idea of doing it on the bubble envelope. Gonna do that one for sure. Thanks for making this so much fun. I have really enjoyed it. Saw someone doing it on material but it was all the same material and I was wondering how it would do on different material surfaces.

Hi Melissa--Thanks for the informative video. I have never worked with gelli plates before, so I signed up for the class. I would really like to see a demo of using gelli plate techniques directly in an art journal. I notice you always use separate sheets of paper (or envelopes), but you should be able to use it directly in a journal. Thanks. I'm looking forward to your class.

Awesome video Melissa!!!! Using the mask was something I had not seen with the gelli plate and loved it. You have lots of tricks up your sleeve, but I would love to see how you incorporate your prints in a finished piece of art- a journal page, on a canvas, combined with other mediums, etc :-)

Wonderful. You are a great art teacher!
I would love to see a video on "now what?"
I have pulled two colors on several prints, they are just sitting on the floor in my work room."Now what do I do with them not to make a hot mess putting on more colors?"

Thanks, Melissa, for the video. NEVER thought of using embossing folders! I would like to see some ideas on incorporating gelli prints into scrapbooking. How do you have a great gelli print and still have the pictures stand out?
Posted by: Kim Gnagy | August 29, 2013 at 10:56 PM
You did a great job on your first video, Melissa! I haven't opened my Gelli plate yet but am ready to go. I would be interested In a video showing how you use the prints in your artwork (love the envelope idea, btw). Also, any tips for first time users of a Gelli plate - what to do, not do, etc. Looking forward to the "blog takeover" while Donna's away!

How fun! I wondered, too, about watercolor and about mists, used with acrylics? I love how no matter what you do with a hello plate it always turns out so cool!
Can you print onto fabric, like muslin or flour-sack dish towels?
I'd also love a video with what to do with all that paper (or fabric) - examples of framed pieces, art journal pages, bookmarks, magnets, whatever!

Love your video. You showed some techniques I never tried on my Gelli plate, but I will try them this weekend.
Every time I use my Gelli plate I struggle with the use of colors... Which can I combine and with wich color do I begin and end... Also with patterns; do I go from big to little or from little to big... Maybe you can incorporate this in your next video ?
Posted by: Afke | August 30, 2013 at 07:30 AM
Very cool! Thanks so much for filling in and sharing with us.

I love the video!! I am still such a beginner with my plate and you gave some great ideas!! I'd love to see how you use watercolors with the gelli, I'm sure it can be done. I just have no idea how to do it:)
Posted by: Kathie Barrus | August 30, 2013 at 10:22 AM
Great video! It inspired me to get out my gelli plate and play! Is it possible to use sprays or inks on the gelli plate, or would that stain? If it is possible, that would be a fun video.
Posted by: Tricia | August 30, 2013 at 10:36 AM
It's past 9am Eastern time but I'd still like to comment. The video was most helpful and I'd like to see you use stencils in another video.
Posted by: Barbara L | August 30, 2013 at 01:01 PM
Melissa... you just showed me the coolest thing! Use the embossed paper on a Gelli Plate. It is such a win-win, you get an amazing Gelli print PLUS a fun painted embossed paper. Oh the possibilities are endless - thanks! I would LOVE to see more things like that. Take something that would not be expected to create fun textures on a Gelli.
Posted by: dinny | August 30, 2013 at 03:38 PM
Melissa,
Loved the video! Learned some cool techniques! I would love to learn what other kinds of things you could use for texture. I loved how you used the stamps, and by the way I love those feather stamps! Anyway I love it! Do more videos!

Hi Melissa, I really enjoyed your video! Donna doesn't need to worry, because you are really keeping us entertained until she gets back. Now the gelli plate is new for me so everything I see is interesting and I love the results! So I couldn't really ask for some technique since I don't know any yet (except the ones you've just shown me LOL! Thanks again for sharing and looking forward to the next video.

Great job, Melissa. I've used many surfaces for my gelli prints but hadn't thought of using a padded envelope. Duh! I would love to see a video where you use lots of layers & colors, and another where you take your prints, cut them up, and use them in collages.
Posted by: LaurieJay | August 30, 2013 at 09:19 PM
Oh wow. This has been really helpful. I love the mileage you get from paint with the gelli plate.
I would love to see how you used the plate with some unusual objects that we can find around the house...but not necessarily in the craft room. ;)
Thanks for sharing!
