For the past 6 years I have been art journaling, seriously keeping a visual diary of who I am as an Artist, developing techniques, learning new products and building a comprehensive working knowledge of working in mixed-media layers. almost religiously for the last 3 years of those 6 years, I have been keeping an "Inspiration Journal".
I have used this journal each week as a teaching tool. Just as a student practices her craft, I practiced the creative freedom of letting go, painting intuitively and learning and developing my skills as an artist. I have learned acceptance and creative confidence and in doing so, made that process open to you in the hopes of empowering you each week to believe in the process too.
During those same 3 years, I began trusting the process, I took the next leap into implementing these skills in a larger format, taking the process another step further and applying my art on canvas. I quickly learned bridging the ideas from art journals to canvas gave me a broader understanding of the medias I was working with.
48 weeks, my year long course for 2014, incorporates not only the skills learned through art journaling but also the knowledge gained through working on larger scale canvases. (Kinda like "inspiration Wednesday" and "Canvas Create" had a baby!)
48 weeks is a year long comprehensive online course that empowers each of us to allow the natural ebb and flow of our artistic styles guide the creative process, building a strong foundation for your art, your creative confidence as well as an incredibly vast repertoire of techniques that stretch beyond just the art journal page.
I wanted to create this workshop as the touchstone of each students creative journey. This year long course explores dozens of fascets of the creative process and takes each student beyond the art into a creative awaking each week.
We will create together, working on the pages of our journals each week expressively documenting every milestone as we complete the 48 entries, documenting our growth as an artist in 2014.
Because I have always wanted to fill and complete an A3 Moleskine journal, I am using this LARGE format journal (16 x 22") as my diary of this journey. The actual book you use does not change the process or the practice. I want you to work with whatever you feel the most comfortable working in, you can even choose to work on canvases if that fits your style.
48 weeks is a work at your own pace online course that includes 48 weeks of NEW creative and expressive art that will inspire you to dig deeper into your creative soul, develop your personal style and leave it on the page. Every 3 months you will receive another 12 weeks of course lessons. these lessons are fully downloadable, which means they are yours forever to save, re-watch, rewind and to reference for a lifetime.
I invite all of you to join me this year as I share from my heart, my creative journey and artistic practices that fuel the passion I have for art.
"Art makes the spirit soar.
And when the spirit is lifted, life follows."

sorry to hear that jet, but i know the sticker shock might unfortunately be too steep for some people understandably. however, to teach all year and to put my heart and soul into it, i just couldnt do it for less.

I was wondering donna, does it have to be registered for before jan 1 or can it be registered and starter in feb?? Because I really want to be part of this journey but leave for art venture jan 7 and will be paying for that but definitely want to get in on this! Just the video made
Me feel amazing....

Seriously pondering this. I think the cost/week is so incredibly reasonable, so it's not that, though the cash outlay at Christmas is serious. But I want to really believe that I will be able to commit to it weekly if I give myself this present. Cause there is no use in getting so far behind I never catch up, even though it is self paced, so to speak. Thinking, thinking.......Been so wanting to stretch my wings.

Donna, I am so excited for this and hope in the future I can afford it. I tapped out and went way past my budget with black friday and what I was ahem ahem "ALLOWED" to get. I really want to learn about painting and using stuff like you do. Thanks so much for INSPIRATION WEDNESDAY. Hope to be able to do more in the future. I really want to come up and take some actual classes!

sherry great question! you can sign up anytime!!! it is a work at your own pace course and it is not "going away" it will stay available forever, lol! the only benefit to signing up before april 2014 is the discounted priceing. does that make sense?
Posted by: donna downey | December 04, 2013 at 12:15 PM
dawn i totally understand that, i am the same way. but it is really a work at your own pace course. you may sign up in jan 2014 and someone may signup in june 2014 and someone can sign up in dec 2014...it is purely about you and your journey whether it happens within 12 week window or not the course is yours forever to rewatch and create with.
Posted by: donna downey | December 04, 2013 at 12:18 PM
shanna honestly i am grateful beyond means for yours and everyones continued support. whether it is this course or just reading my blog and commenting you are a part of this creative journey we take together! i know our paths will cross!!!

I am starting my _donation to artist_ fund to be able to participate. I am finishing up an 8 week course with Nat and love the idea of a year long workshop for expanding my creative soul. I have learned how to play and realized how much a structured system forces me in a good way to explore regularly. Love it!

omg i love that"my donation to artist fund". what you just said " I have learned how to play and realized how much a structured system forces me in a good way to explore regularly. " is kinda profound and so true for so many

Absolutely love the payment options and glad to have read previous comments; I am definitely signing up after Christmas. Just wondering... are the videos ours to keep? or do we have a link to an online video? and the pièce de résistance - store discounts =D Yay, I've got some serious goosebumps!
Posted by: Jeanette | December 04, 2013 at 01:05 PM
hi jeanette!! the videos are your to keep forever!! you can download them right to your copmputer or stream them if you prefer not to
Posted by: donna downey | December 04, 2013 at 01:21 PM
This is truly amazing Donna. So very excited for you and the ppl that are able to join. But I had a (kind of selfish) question. Will this take the place of your IInspiration Wednesday and/or Collage Monday Videos?
Posted by: jen | December 04, 2013 at 01:35 PM
yes and no. i plan to keep both journals going, i would be too sad to see either of them go and they are also a huge part of my process. However, i will not be committing to the every monday/wednesday video constraints, simply because of the amount of time it consumes. not selfish at all jen, it needed to be asked :)

Holy cow, this looks awesome Donna!! I think I need to come up with a "donate to my Donna Downey 2014 workshop" fundraiser LOL. You have such exciting things going on next year and bringing in so many other artists to the studio next year that I may need a second mortgage or something!!!! You know I love you guys and LOVE coming to see you so be prepared to see me ALOT next year!!!!! I told my boyfriend all I want for Christmas is for him to babysit my 3 dogs and cat when I come to the studio next year. It's all about the art baby :-) Hell yea I'm signing up for 48 weeks. (Giggle)

ellie you know you make everyday at the studio that much happier for me...your like walking sunshine!! it is going to be an amazing year!
Posted by: donna downey | December 04, 2013 at 02:45 PM
This sounds amazing! So its 1 video and 1 different project for each of the 48 weeks?
Very reasonable pricing, considering I have paid the '1 semester price' for a real life class that only had one project!
Definitely signing up!
Posted by: Annmaree of Oz | December 04, 2013 at 05:20 PM
hi annmaree! yes you have it exactly correct. there will be 48 projects/videos, as well as, a couple bits of videos here and there over the course of the year that arent exactly projects. for example things like workspace organization, inspirational practices, etc
Posted by: donna downey | December 04, 2013 at 05:25 PM
48 weeks with DD .. hell yeah! Bring .. it .. on!! Hope lots of other Aussies sign up too so we can take the journey together. 2014 is looking awesome :-)
Posted by: Lisa Hayes | December 04, 2013 at 07:02 PM
This looks fabulous! I am seriously considering joining up. Will there be a private Facebook group or something along those lines for students to share work with each other for support?
Posted by: Stephanie Brockway | December 04, 2013 at 08:04 PM
Oh...this sounds amazing. I am sure I can swing it. Just one detail...if there is any part that requires Facebook involvement to secure the lessons in their entirety then I am out.
Posted by: SMM | December 04, 2013 at 09:51 PM
That's so awesome!!!
Posted by: Annmaree of Oz | December 05, 2013 at 03:54 AM
I CANNOT wait to do this......... A whole year with DD..... What could be better......love the idea that every week I will be learning something extraordinary and hopefully when imam done it will look, like something......lol!!!!!

barbara it will look amazing!!!
Posted by: donna downey | December 05, 2013 at 11:26 AM
i am doing a public facebook page https://www.facebook.com/48weeks but i think it would be magnificent if one of the students wanted to start a private one too.
Posted by: donna downey | December 05, 2013 at 11:29 AM
nope, no facebook required!!
Posted by: donna downey | December 05, 2013 at 11:29 AM
i think this would be a great way to connect across the globe!! i love the freedom the aussies bring to their art!!
Posted by: donna downey | December 05, 2013 at 11:30 AM
Public is fine! I was just hoping there would be some kind of a student forum for folks to chat and share work. Thanks!
Posted by: Stephanie Brockway | December 05, 2013 at 12:25 PM
I am excited about this class! It looks fun and challenging. One question, what materials we would need? I just want to get an estimate on what I might already have and what I might need.
Posted by: SWL | December 05, 2013 at 09:06 PM
along with these videos will also be a pdf listing the supplies i used with each lesson. the list is for your reference ONLY so you know what i used, not a supplies you must have list. i want each student to develop their style and process using what they have and know and make educated decisions on whether or not to purchase more.
Posted by: donna downey | December 06, 2013 at 08:49 AM

Hi Donna.
Oh my, this is awesome.
Is your A3 journal the one with watercolor paper? I was looking online and I saw a couple different kinds of moleskine A3s.
just FYI, I was in your "Paint like an Artist" class in Lady Lake FL in June-- great class.

I reeeaaaalllyyy want to do this, but unfortunately i will have to stand by while everyone else does it :( Maybe you should give one away to a lucky winner! *wink wink*
Posted by: Emma | December 10, 2013 at 02:13 PM
Thank you for the payment plan! I had a serious case of sticker shock, but when I think about how empowering and inspirational I've found your in person classes, I knew that I could call this 'education', write it off as such, and indulge. My massive Moley awaits!!
Will there be a place for students to commune and show their work?
Posted by: Effy | December 10, 2013 at 05:06 PM
Hi, an A3 that measures 16 x 22 ? Where do I find one that size? help;-) sounds fun.
Posted by: Linda Robison | December 13, 2013 at 04:44 PM
I plan to enroll. I am investing in myself. I'm having a hard time letting go go my training as a graphic designer. Too rigid!!!
Question - will the videos go into more depth as compared to your Inspiration Wednesday videos? I guess I am curious about how similar/different they will be.
