what an amazing 2 days spent collaborative painting with our first class of ARTISTRY students
Stephen and i couldn't be more different in our stylistic approaches to art, but together we make one hell of a team! the artwork produced this weekend was nothing short of spectacular.
i had to blog today and boast about this 2-day, intimate workshop experience and share several photos of the students work in various stages. may just be the best event yet!
this is a "tag-team" event where i begin by teaching you how to build the foundation of the piece by incorporating my love of color, mixed-media and free-spirited style. we work on a small canvas first (the learning canvas so to speak), building color confidence, blending, dripping and layering and then take those skills to the large 3' x 4' canvas.
then Stephen, takes the lead with his fine art and technical drawing skills and teaches you how to "draw what you see". building an understanding of scale, shape and proportion he guides you through each step of the drawing process, first practicing the grid method on paper, then on your practice canvas. you then learn how to see and paint shadows, layer glazes and add contrast, while allowing the colors in your first layer to show through.
then we go BIG! taking all the skills and translating the image into a large scale piece.
SO FRICKEN COOL!
it was such an amazing event we have decided we have to repeat it!!!!
we have also added the second collaborative ARTISTRY event to the calendar in 2015.
mark your calendars, these ARTISTRY collaborative events only allow 10 students and are already filling
see below for links to these events and more event information
(the first ARTISTRY event is not a pre-requisite for the second one. they can be done independently of each other, in any order)

This was one of the most awesome, challenging events I've been to so far! Both Donna and Stephen's "part" of the class were great. It was definitely a stretch for me, but they both helped pull me through. The small class size is wonderful, allowing for lots of personal attention and coming home with a 3'x 4' finished (mostly) canvas along with a smaller version definitely lets me feel like I accomplished a lot in the 2 days. I came home energized and with even more "tools" in my artsy belt. Thank you Stephen and Donna!
