Artist Gang member Shawn Petite
creates a 3 dimensional collage using Amazing Casting Products
since this is a brand new product to me and to many of you, she has put together this little video and step-by-step for you to follow along!
step-by-step
I was wanting to create a piece in memory of the women in my life using vintage buttons from my moms and grandmas button boxes, but didn’t want to risk ruining the buttons, I also needed the right flat surface on the back of the buttons to adhere them securely to the piece. That’s when I thought about the Amazing products. I thought it would take a few trys to get the process right, but it was SO easy I got it right the first time! Here are the steps to creating this truly meaningful memory.
Amazing mold putty (it has a clay consistency)
Separate a small amount of both colors to cover one button
Mix the two colors together, like kneading clay, until you can’t distinguish two separate colors (all yellow)
Create a roundish ball and place button in the middle and push the putty up around the sides of the button, don’t push the button down into the putty
Set the putty with button aside to cure ( about 15 minutes)
I used a couple of different items that had meaing. One was a paper flower and the putty worked well with that as well.
Amazing resin – I used the opaque, you can get translucent too.
Poured equal amounts, about 1 tbs each (that was more than enough to pour 4 molds) into the measuring cups provided. I cut a solo cup down and poured the two in to the cup and mixed with a plastic knife, (a few seconds)
I poured the mixture into the molds, do this quickly because it start to cure pretty fast. The mixture goes in clear and as it cures it turns white. This took about 15 minutes.
The molds are pliable and rubber like so once the resin has cured they pop right out of the putty. The details on the castings are beautiful! They also are flat on the back, and that makes it easy to adhere to anything.
I put the castings on with texture paste/modeling paste. The instructions said that once cured you could paint directly onto the casting and I did, and it took the paint beautifully.
And there you have it! This piece turned out much better than my expectations. So many more ideas for this “Amazing” product!
Wow! Wow! and Wow! What else could be said! This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing how you did it!

Shawn, this is amazing! I see that you are in the Phoenix area, so I'm I! Do you do any workshops/classes? I'm wondering about the transfer that you did in this video, it looks like you did it on cellophane?? You also mentioned that you have a video on transfers, how can I find that?
