{ 3 Poppies - oil on cradle board }
one of my newest oil paintings
i cannot say enough about the sheer joy that oil paint gives me!
the texture, oh man the TEXTURE!
love all the colors...smushed and blended!!!!
just channeling my inner Van Gogh and it makes me happy!
and now i wait 4 months for paint to dry, lol!
If only I could be so brave!! Great job!

Love this painting so much Donna, makes me want to get my fingers in and start making texture too. I used to do oils years ago, but then acrylics took over, but even the smell of linseed oil starts the juices flowing. Xx

I tried oil paints (with cold wax) and got terrible headaches every time I worked with it. I loved the results, but the process was literally painful. I would like to replicate the results with acrylic. Has anyone tried acrylic with cold wax? Or anyone have any suggestions on what to use with acrylic to get the soft layered look of oil with cold wax?

Yes, I can see why you would enjoy the texture. We can almost touch it through the photo. My hands are itching to try now.

They say "the waiting is the hardest part" ...well worth it for this beautiful canvas. Lovely texture.

So beautiful! I really like the colors and the texture. If only oils didn't take so long to dry, but it's always worth the wait! :)

Donna honey this is GORGEOUS - so luscious, scrumptious and oooh squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'ish!! I grew up with my Mum doing landscapes in oils and I loved smushing the paints onto her palette. I will NEVER forget that smell... bad for me I know but just so lovely too! These days I know we can get low-smell (ermmm not right terminology, LOL) oil paints. I also remember doing an ''okay'' still life when I was about 12, so wish I still had it! Fruit in a bowl!
I know deep down inside my soul that I will venture into oils at some stage in the future.. it's there.. tempting me...
Tell me, you say 4 months to dry - do you have to keep it in certain conditions so it will cure properly?? Much love and hugs xxxx
